DETROIT (WWJ) -- An attorney for a former Detroit Tiger and current sports broadcaster is emphatically denying sexual abuse allegations that appeared on social media this week.

WWJ's Charlie Langton reports an attorney for Craig Monroe is firing back at his accuser regarding her claims that Monroe groomed her at 12 years old.

The accuser, who has remained anonymous, claimed Monroe would prostitute her to his friends while continuing a consensual sexual relationship with her when she was a teenager.

Now, in a statement, Monroe's attorney, Michael Manley, says that all of those claims of abuse are denied, and that Monroe his shocked by the allegations.

The statement by Manely, provided by email to WWJ Newsradio 950, reads as follows:

"Craig Monroe did not dignify these horrifying, and false allegations when they appeared on various social media sites. Now that mainstream media has chosen to report this inaccurate information, Craig has no choice but to vehemently deny these claims. We will cooperate with law enforcement and are confident that once this case is fully investigated, Craig will be cleared of any wrongdoing.

"Craig Monroe takes allegations of this nature very seriously and would never commit or condone such despicable conduct. He and his family are shocked by these allegations and offer his accuser forgiveness and grace. We trust that law enforcement will uncover the truth regarding her background and motivations."

Monroe played with the Tigers for parts of six seasons, including during the team's World Series run in 2006. He also played for the Minnesota Twins, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Working as a broadcaster since 2012, and now the lead color analyst on Tigers broadcasts, Monroe has been off the job for several weeks.
