(WWJ) Former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox is running for Governor.

In an online video put out on social media Tuesday, Cox says the bad politicians with worse ideas are destroying Michigan.

"Made it harder to work, harder to learn, made us less safe," Cox says in the two minute video.  "I'm tired of being told we can't lead anymore, that we should accept less, aren't you?  We are Michigan, the strong, the tough, we build, we're the land of Great Lakes and great dreams."

Some of his campaign promises include eliminating the income tax, restoring right to work, and making it easier to find a good job.

"We need to start teaching our kids the ABCs instead of DEI, let's grade our school so every kid can read and write, give parents the right to choose the best school for their kids," Cox said.

Cox was Michigan Attorney General from 2003 to 2011.  He ran for Governor in 2010 and finished third in the Republican Primary.

Cox joins state Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt and Congressman John James in the Republican field of candidates.

Democrats who have announced they will seek the seat of term-limited Governor Gretchen Whitmer are Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has announced he's running as an independent.
