ANN ARBOR (WWJ) -- A former assistant football coach at the University of Michigan is under investigation for a reported sexual assault.
The Ann Arbor Department said Friday it was recently made aware of allegations about a sex assault that occurred on December 5, 2024. An investigation is ongoing and remains active.
Police did not name the person suspected in the assault, as no criminal charges have yet been filed.
However, the Atlanta Falcons on Friday fired assistant coach LaTroy Lewis as a result of the allegation. The team said Lewis was an assistant coach at Michigan at the time of the alleged violence.
The U of M Athletic Department released the following statement:
"These allegations are deeply concerning. As we have noted, the University launched an investigation of the circumstances and conduct leading to Sherrone Moore’s firing, as well as a broader culture review of the Athletic Department. We continue to urge anyone with relevant information to reach out to the law firm conducting the investigation at umconcerns@jenner.com. The work is ongoing, and we will be able to share more when it is completed."
No further information about the alleged assault have been released.
