(WWJ) 20 employers, including three in Metro Detroit, have been cited for Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) COVID-19 emergency rule or general duty citations.
MIOSHA's Emergency Rules require businesses with in-person work to have a written COVID-19 preparedness and response plan and provide thorough training to their employees. It covers workplace infection-control practices, the proper use of personal protection equipment (PPE), and steps workers must take to notify the business or operation of any symptoms of COVID-19 or a suspected or confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19.
An emergency rule citation carries a fine of up to $7,000.
The Metro Detroit businesses include F M Carpenters, LLC in Detroit, National Parts Depot-Michigan in Canton, and House of Pets in Westland—all for COVID-19 Emergency Rules Citations.
National Parts Depot in Canton was slapped with a $4,900 fine for not requiring masks, not posting signs about COVID-19 symptoms, and not requiring enhanced cleaning. The business also failed to put up plexiglass barriers or develop and implement COVID-19 training for employees, according to the State.
House of Pets in Westland had to pay $400 for not performing a health screening on employees, not developing a written COVID-19 preparedness plan, and not posting signs demanding customers stay away if they are sick.
FM Carpenters in Detroit was fined a total of $800 for a lack of a COVID-19 preparedness and response plan, and other unspecified violations.
