Free fishing, off-roading and entry this weekend at Michigan state parks

(WWJ) -- It’s an especially great weekend to enjoy the outdoors in Michigan!

This Saturday and Sunday mark “Three Free Weekend” for all Michigan state parks.

That means that on June 12 and June 13, residents and non-residents can go fishing, ORV riding, and gain entry into all state parks, free of charge.

Michigan Department of Natural Resources Parks and Recreation chief Ronald Olson tells WWJ's Beth Fisher reports that he encourages Michiganders to check out the state parks and all they have to offer.

“We call it the ‘Big Green Gym’ sometimes, it’s the cheapest health and wellness center you could go to,” Olson said. “You can go hiking and swimming and seek solitude. We have a state park within less than hour access to every resident in the state.”

Park goers can also go without a fishing license and ORV license, or a trail permit, on Saturday and Sunday.
