DETROIT (WWJ) – Residents on Detroit’s northwest side may not get their trash picked up on time and the city’s Department of Public Works is asking for residents to be patient.
Staffing issues due to COVID-19 with Waste Management are causing pickups to run behind this week.
The DPW says several thousand households will have their trash and recycling containers collected 1-2 days late because of the staffing issue. All routes are expected to be completed by Saturday.
Officials say this affects the normal routes scheduled for Friday, Jan. 7 in the areas bounded by Eight Mile Rd, Southfield Freeway, I-96, Lodge Freeway, Meyers and Lyndon. A map of the affected area can be seen below.

"Unfortunately, employers and individuals everywhere are being impacted by Covid right now and we're no exception," said DPW Director Ron Brundidge. "We apologize for the inconvenience and expect to be caught up this weekend."
DPW is telling anyone who has recycling or trash that has not been collected to keep the containers at the curb until a crew comes to pick it up.

No tickets will be issued for residents who leave their containers on the curb during this period.
To find out your scheduled collection dates, visit www.detroitmi.gov and enter you address in the "My Home info" field. Residents also can sign up to receive text alert reminders the day before their next scheduled pickup by texting their street address to 313-800-7905.
