(WWJ) — Today is Friday the 13th, and while some might consider it unlucky, it’s been a pretty lucky day for some Michiganders when it comes to the lottery.
Four Michigan players have won the Mega Millions jackpot on Friday the 13th, dating back to June 2013:
• June 13, 2008 – $57 million jackpot, won by a Kent City man
• May 13, 2011 – $27 million jackpot, won by a Kalamazoo man
• June 13, 2014 – $66 million jackpot, won by a Port Huron woman
• Oct. 13, 2017 – $21 million jackpot, won by a Waterford man
That could be your sign to buy a ticket as the jackpot has climbed to $695 million for Friday’s drawing, with a cash value of $322 million.
If someone wins Friday’s jackpot, it would be the eighth largest prize in the game’s history and the fourth Mega Millions jackpot won this year.
Friday’s drawing is the 27th since the jackpot was last won in September, when a ticket bought in Texas won the $810 million prize.
Since this run began on Sept. 13, the Michigan State Lottery says Michigan players have won more than $4.2 million in prizes, including two $1 million prizes.
The Mega Millions jackpot was last won in Michigan in January 2021 by an Oakland County lottery club. The club won a $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot. That jackpot was the largest ever won in Michigan.
Tickets for Friday’s drawing will be sold at retailers across the state until 10:45 p.m. They can also be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.
