(WWJ) The mercury in the thermometer will drop way down Sunday night in Metro Detroit, as low as five degrees Fahrenheit.
Accuweather predicts the highs in the teens and low 20’s through Thursday, with the highest temperature only 25 degrees.
Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad urges you to abide by basic cold weather safety tips including do not leave your vehicle unattended and do not leave your children in unattended vehicles. You should also dress appropriately and keep watch over elderly friends, family and neighbors who are susceptible to the cold.
DTE recommends setting the thermostat at 68 degrees while you’re awake, and then raising the temperature when you’re away or asleep. Ensure rugs, draperies, or furniture are not blocking heat vents. They also urge you to close the fireplace damper unless you have a fire burning; otherwise, it essentially works like an open window by allowing cold air to draft in through the chimney.
Cities across the area are opening up warming centers for residents without homes or utilities.
