Water damaged garbage piled high in Grosse Pointe neighborhood nearly two weeks after massive flood (VIDEO)

Grosse Pointe (WWJ) The historic flooding nearly two weeks ago is still creating a big headache for several homeowners in Wayne County.

WWJ’s Charlie Langton said most of the garbage has been picked up after it was soiled by up to seven inches of rain, but not in the city of Grosse Pointe.

“Everybody’s upset. This is a catastrophe, really, in the neighborhood,” Grosse Pointe resident Joe Fodell told Langton.

Washington and Rivard streets were hit particularly hard. Trash is still piled high on about five streets in the area, near Mack. Although the city has done what it can, Fodell said a nearby waterway caused complications.

“This is the worst area because Fox Creek runs through here,” Fodell said.

City officials say they are working around the clock, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up the trash.

Nearly 5,000 Detroit homes reported water in their basement after the flood. The water was up to 10 feet high in some places of I-94 in Detroit, with thousands of cars becoming submerged. Fortunately, no serious injuries or deaths were reported.
