FLINT (WWJ) – A Genesee County Sheriff's sergeant has pleaded guilty to operating while impaired in a crash back in early January.

Sgt. Demetta Reeves was allegedly super drunk when she crashed a county-issued vehicle on Jan. 8. Reeves had initially been charged with misdemeanors of driving while super drunk and possessing a weapon while under the influence, according to MLive.

On Tuesday, Reeves pleaded guilty to an amended charge of OWI. The count of possessing a firearm was dismissed, according to MLive.

She was sentenced to one year probation, with requirements she takes a series of classes related to alcohol abuse. There is also a requirement for alcoholics anonymous meetings and counseling, as well as paying more than $1,300 in fines and costs. There also is an optional 10-day jail term.

A show cause hearing is scheduled for next June, when a judge will review the case and make sure she has paid fines and costs.

Authorities say Reeves left 501 Bar and Grill in downtown Flint on Jan. 8, then crashed the county-issued 2019 Chevy Impala into a median on I-475 near Massachusetts Avenue around 1 a.m..

Reeves told deputies she lost control of the car after hitting a patch of ice. She also admitted to drinking four apple martinis and a drink of another alcoholic beverage, according to MLive.

Reeves told police she had her county-issued Glock in the trunk of the car and her own .38 caliber handgun in her purse while drinking at the bar, according to the report.

Reeves failed multiple field sobriety tests and blew a .226 on a breathalyzer test.
