MONROE (WWJ) - A young girl in Monroe County had a close call on Lake Erie after her raft managed to drift over a mile from shore Friday afternoon.

Firefighters along with deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Sterling State Park after a 9-year-old child on a yellow inflatable was blown out from shore and couldn't get back.

An adult woman attempted to rescue the young girl on a separate raft, but she couldn't reach the child and also needed help from responders.

Authorities said the woman was found about a mile from the shoreline and the child was even further out into Lake Erie; both were rescued and brought back to shore.

Neither the girl or the woman sustained any injuries, authorities said.
