(WWJ) General Motors has released more information about what vehicles will be made at the Orion Assembly plant in Oakland County.
“GM will begin production of the Cadillac Escalade, as well as the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light duty pickups at Orion Assembly in early 2027 to help meet continued strong customer demand," the automaker said in a statement. "GM is proud to call Michigan home, and these moves will further strengthen our manufacturing footprint."
The information was released a month after GM announced plans to invest $4 billion over the next two years in its U.S. manufacturing plants, including a multi-billion-dollar investment in Orion Township.
Governor Whitmer says the work is just the latest example of the progress the state is making to create good-paying union auto jobs and grow the economy.
“Michigan’s economic progress is undeniable, and we are proud to be a top 10 state to do business in the country," Whitmer said in a statement. “GM and Michigan have a long, rich history. Today’s product announcement in Lake Orion will bring production of some of GM’s most popular and profitable vehicles, a sign of the long-term viability of this investment in Michigan."
The Free Press reported General Motors delayed restarting the electric vehicle factory in Orion Township several times last year, citing demand for EVs grew at a slower pace than initially predicted.
