SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) A Good Samaritan died while assisting the victims of a car crash in Southfield, Michigan State Police (MSP) said.
MSP said the crash happened on Saturday, October 3, at 11:39 p.m., on M-10 near 9 Mile. The initial crash left one of the vehicles disabled, blocking the two left lanes.
Within a few minutes, a passing motorist stopped on the right shoulder and crossed the freeway to help those affected by the crash.
According to authorities, another driver swerved in an attempt to avoid the disabled vehicle and struck the Good Samaritan.
MSP troopers, Southfield Police and Southfield Fire/EMS provided life-saving efforts, including CPR.
First responders pronounced the Good Samaritan dead at the scene.
The person's name, age and gender were not released.
Authorities said the driver stopped and cooperated with authorities. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
The freeway remained closed until about 4:30 a.m.
Michigan State Police continue to investigate the crash.
