(WWJ) Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is doubling down on the fact that she will not become Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate.

Joined CBS Mornings on Monday, Whitmer said: "The Vice President has got a great group of people from whom she's gonna pick her running mate. And I know that I can be the best ally on the ground in Michigan as the co-chair of this campaign as well, so that is my focus."

This comes after Whitmer last week told reporters, "I am not interested in doing other than this job for the next two and a half years," as she signed Michigan's education budget. (Whitmer's second term as Michigan's governor ends Jan. 1, 2027). And while Harris' campaign said it did request vetting materials from Whitmer, according to USA Today, Whitmer said she did not send any documents, and is not in the running.

"I have communicated with everyone, including the people of Michigan, that I'm going to stay as governor until the end of my term at the end of 2026," Whitmer added.

So, who will Harris ultimately choose? There's still quite a lengthy list of people who are reportedly being considered — with only a little over a week left to decide.

"Probably in the next six, seven days I'll imagine we'll known who her running mate is, and we'll get ready for convention," Whitmer told CBS Mornings. "I think what you'll see is a convention of happy warriors."

Looking at a few top picks: In a new ABC News poll from Sunday, Senator Mark Kelly, a former astronaut and US Navy captain from Arizona, holds a positive 10-point favorability rating among Americans for Harris' running mate, followed by Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.

According to a report by Politico, even fans of Whitmer have said they worry a two-woman ticket may not fare well against Donald Trump in the November general election, opining that "Harris should probably pick a white guy."
