(WWJ) Winning the Big Ten East won't be the only thing at stake when Michigan plays Ohio State on Saturday. There's pride, there's bragging rights and now -- there's food!
In what has become an annual tradition, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine each bet on their home team with local favorites and specialties.
Gov. Whitmer threw down the gauntlet first this year, Tweeting at Gov. DeWine, "Do you hear that? It sounds like The Victors rolling into town this weekend. How about we run it back this year with another friendly bet?"
"I'm definitely up for a wager," DeWine replied, wagering pizza from Adriatico's on OSU's campus, Stewart's Root Beer and the iconic Jumbo Cream Puffs from Schmidt's Sausage Haus in Columbus.
Whitmer found the terms acceptable and offered up Buddy's Pizza, dessert from Good Cakes and Bakes and a case of Vernor's ginger ale.
"I have no doubt @UMichFootball will pull of the W," she responded, "but just in case, I'll offer @buddyspizza, @GoodCakes313, and @VernorsSoda to help was down the loss. #GoBlue!"
Both Michigan and Ohio State enter The Game undefeated with the Big Ten Championship Game and a spot in the College Football Playoffs on the line.
In a Friday press release, Whitmer was confident in Michigan's ability to trounce the competition.
“When the clock runs out, only one team will be crowned The Victors," she said. "That’s why I’m feeling good about this year’s bet with Governor DeWine"
Whitmer also declared Saturday "Beat the Buckeyes" Day in Michigan ahead of the matchup.
This will be the 118th time the two rivals have faced off. Last year, Michigan defeated the Buckeyes in a 42-27 victory.
The Game kicks off at noon on Saturday, November 26, at OSU. Pre-game coverage starts at 9 a.m. on WWJ Newsradio 950.
