(WWJ) A 17-year-old boy from Grand Rapids, Michigan has died after falling from a fourth floor balcony while in Florida on spring break.

That's according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the tragic incident at a condominium complex on Gulf Shore Dr. in Destin, a popular beach destination in the Panhandle.

Sheriff's officials said a person staying at a neighboring condo called 911 at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday to report seeing a body on the ground outside the building.

First responded arrived to find the teenager dead on the scene.

"Our sincere prayers go out to the family and friends of the young man in this tragic loss," the OCSO said, in a statement shared on social media.

While the investigation is still ongoing into the incident, the sheriff's office said alcohol is believed to have been a factor.

The teen's name has not been released as OCSO said Wednesday that investigators are still working to verify additional information in the case.
