(WWJ) Want to meet your loved ones at the gate, just like old times? You can, if you qualify.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has officially launched Gateside by TSA PreCheck, a new benefit allowing TSA PreCheck members to access secure airport terminal areas without holding a boarding pass.
Under the initiative, Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus is among 13 airports nationwide selected for the launch.
The service is provided at no additional cost to existing TSA PreCheck members, enabling trusted travelers to go beyond security checkpoints to accompany departing loved ones, greet arriving passengers at the gate, or simply access terminal dining and shopping.
According to a news release the program reflects broader efforts under President Trump's administration to deliver a "Golden Age of Travel" by streamlining the airport experience and making terminals more family-friendly while preserving strict TSA security standards.

How to request a gateside pass
- Submit Request: Eligible TSA PreCheck members must apply online at TSA.gov/gateside between 1 to 3 days prior to their scheduled airport visit.
- Provide Details: Applicants must enter their TSA PreCheck Known Traveler Number (KTN) and select their target airport.
- Screening & Identification: Once approved, visitors must bring a REAL ID or another acceptable form of government identification to the TSA checkpoint.
All non-flying visitors entering the secure area remain subject to standard TSA security screening protocols. Additional program details can be found directly at TSA.gov.
