(WWJ) Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is being considered for TIME's 2020 Person of the Year.

Whitmer has gained a national profile for her handling of the coronavirus and facing attacks from President Donald Trump. She also made national news this year when she was listed among potential vice presidential candidates for President-elect Joe Biden, and when she was target of a kidnap plot involving more than a dozen men, which was thwarted by the FBI.

The 49-year-old Whitmer has some tough competition for Person of the Year. Those in the running include Dr. Anthony Fauci, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and Pope Francis.

The winner will be announced December 10.

The public can flip through all of the candidates and vote for their favorites HERE. TIME editors will make the final decision.
