Grosse Ile Toll Bridge reopens after mechanical issue shut it down Thursday morning

GROSSE ILE (WWJ) -- There's good news for people who live on or visit Wayne County's Grosse Ile.

The Grosse Ile Police Department has reopened the Grosse Ile Toll Bridge.

According to officials with the township, the bridge experienced a "unforeseen" malfunction during a training exercise, that left it unable to close Thursday morning.

Officials added: "The Township is working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We’ll keep everyone updated as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience."

Officials told drivers to use the Wayne County Parkway Bridge, commonly known as the "Free Bridge," in the meantime.

The bridge was back open by around 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Officials did not release any further details.
