DETROIT (WWJ) — Detroit police have arrested the owner of a gun that was used in an accidental shooting involving two teens on the city’s east side Monday.
It happened a little before 5:30 on July 14 in the area of Kercheval and McClellan, according to Detroit police.
Officials say a teen shot another teen by mistake, apparently with a secured gun.
Detroit police tell WWJ the teen who was shot was taken to the hospital, where they were listed in stable condition and expected to survive.
The teen who fired the apparently accidental shot is in custody, along with the owner of two guns that were recovered at the scene.
Authorities have not released any other information about the incident, including the age of the gun owner or what charges they may be facing. Under Michigan law, all firearms in homes where children are present must be securely stored, such as with a gun lock or in a safe.
