ST. CLAIR COUNTY (WWJ) - Law enforcement in one Metro Detroit department are dealing with a social media headache after a hacker gained access to their online account and started posting anti-LGBTQ comments.
WWJ's Charlie Langton said the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office discovered the breach on their social media this week after the reported hacker got into their Twitter account and began commenting on users' posts.
"The fake tweets started Tuesday when the hacked account responded to a three-year-old tweet from actress Hilarie Burton Morgan who left the Hallmark Channel because she wanted more LGBTQ actors," Langton said.
"But the fake sheriff's tweet said that straight people had been pounded by gay, lesbian, bi and 'the rest of the alphabet,'" he added.
At this time, the sheriff's department does not have a suspect in custody, but an investigation into the hacking is ongoing.
Langton said Twitter was made aware of the breach and are working to resolve the issue.
