(WWJ) - Officials in Wayne County say they are tracking down any tips that could lead to the arrest of a suspect shooter who killed a man in his 30s over the weekend.
Harper Woods police said officers responded to the 20400 block of Fleetwood Drive, near Vernier and I-94, on Saturday (April 1) around 12:30 a.m. after receiving a call of a disturbance in the street.
"As officers were en route to the scene, they were informed that gunshots had been fired and that an individual may have been struck," Police Chief James Hammerle said in a release on Tuesday.
When officers arrived at the location, they found evidence that an assault had occurred, but no victims could be found. The department said detectives learned a while later that a man in his 30s had sustained gunshot wounds in the incident. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The fatal shooting is still in the early stages of the investigation, but Harper Woods police said they believe it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
While detectives do not have a suspect in custody, they are working to follow up on all leads that could lead to an arrest.
Additional details are expected to be released as police learn more information. Anyone with any knowledge of the incident has been asked to call the Harper Woods Police Department at (313) 343-2530.
