HAZEL PARK (WWJ) -- Hazel Park police say a deadly shooting at an after-prom party appears to be a case of self-defense.
According to detectives with the Hazel Park PD, a 20-year-old Detroit man was shot and killed early Friday morning on Powell Street, after he allegedly pulled a gun and robbed another person of their watch.
Police said a bystander with a valid permit to carry a firearm (CPL) witnessed the robbery and fatally shot the 20-year-old.
A 19-year-old Pontiac woman was also wounded in the crossfire. She's being treated at hospital and is expected to be OK.
It's not yet known whether any charges will be filed.
After corroborating the story with witnesses, and consulting with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, police said the shooter was released from custody while the investigation continues.
No names have been released.
Sources say the house was being rented out as an AirBnB, with a post-prom party taking place there, at the time of the incident.
Anyone with more information about the shooting should call the Hazel Park Police Department at 248-542-6161.
