DETROIT (WWJ) – The reprieve from last week's high heat in Metro Detroit was not particularly long-lived.
After a weekend that saw pleasant temperatures in the mid-to-high 70s, AccuWeather says we'll soon be flirting with record temps again in Southeast Michigan.
Last week Wednesday temperatures climbed into the low and mid-90s, with Saginaw breaking a record at 94 degrees and Flint tying the heat record for that date at 93 degrees.
Many places in Metro Detroit could be posting new records this week — especially on Tuesday Wednesday. AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore says Monday's high is 89, while high temps on Tuesday and Wednesday will be in the mid-90s, with real-feel temps around 100 degrees.
If it hits 97 degrees in Detroit on Wednesday, that would break the previous record for June 21 – 96 degrees all the way back in 1933. Saginaw's record for that day was 95 in 1988, while Flint's record of 98 has held for 99 years.
The National Weather Service has not yet issued any heat warnings or advisories, but officials say on Twitter a front moving in this week will bring a warming trend that's expected to stick around the rest of the week.
