Heavy, fat, sweet: What's Paczki Day in Michigan all about?

(WWJ) Oh, sweet prune-filled pastry, how much we love thee.

But why?

To mark the beginning of Lent on the Christian calendar, Polish-Americans celebrate Fat Tuesday. Or, as it's known in the Midwest, Paczki Day.

While history tells us it's a celebration before a 40-day fast, there's a lot more to the annual eating of paczki among Polish-Americas, their descendants and others in Metro Detroit.

WWJ's Zach Clark dug right into the delectable topic with Renee Applegate from Michigan State University, and Detroit native and Polish musician Mark Lakowski.
