(WWJ) -- Today was the final day to submit entries to Lake Superior State University's annual list of Banished Words for Misuse, Overuse, and Uselessness for 2023.

But just because official submissions are now closed doesn’t mean we have to stop venting about the words that have gotten under our skin over the last year.

We asked WWJ’s Facebook audience which words or phrases they’d like to be rid of in 2023, and here’s what they said:

1. "Unprecedented"
2. "That being said"
3. "Let’s circle back"
4. "Gaslighting"
5 "Fair enough"
6. "Sustainable"
7. "Woke"
8. "My Bad"
9. "Prolly"
10. "These ones"

Lake Superior State has compiled its Banished Words List every year since 1976. Their mission with the mock-serious inventory is to “uphold, protect, and support excellence in language by encouraging avoidance of words and terms that are hackneyed, redundant, oxymoronic, clichéd, illogical, nonsensical—and otherwise ineffective, baffling, or irritating.”

Sitting at the top of the Sault Ste. Marie-based university’s list for 2022 was “wait, what?” along with “no worries” and “at the end of the day.”

Lake Superior State will announce the banished words for 2023 on Dec. 31.
