TROY (WWJ) -- A Downriver man is awaiting expected charges after an incident last weekend at an Oakland County motel.

At around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, Troy police responded to a call about "customer trouble" at the Red Roof Inn on Rochester Ct., near Rochester Rd. and I-75.

Employees told officers that a man, identified as a 24-year-old Lincoln Park resident, was disturbing other customers by knocking on multiple doors at the motel.

Officers found the man, "who was highly intoxicated and lost," according to police. They helped him back to his room and told him to stay inside for the night.

Just after 2 a.m., officers were called back to the business by staff who reported that the man was at it again, and said they wanted him gone.

The man's girlfriend picked him up and took him off motel property, police said, but he returned at around 4:10 a.m., behind the wheel of a 2011 Ford Fusion.

Police spotted the man driving through the motel parking lot and pulled him over.

When the man got out of his car, officer said he "smelled strongly of alcohol."

After he failed a series of sobriety tests, police said the man refused to take a breathalyzer test. Police got a warrant, and the man's blood was drawn by medical personnel at Troy Beaumont Hospital.

The case was then turned over to the Troy PR Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood test results come back, police said.

The man's name was not released.
