MUNISING (WWJ) -- A Southwest Michigan man has died at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula.
The National Park Service says there was a call for help on Wednesday evening reporting that someone had fallen unconscious after showing signs of distress while hiking toward Spray Falls.
It took first responders between 30 and 40 minutes to reach the remote area.
When they arrived on the scene, 45-year-old Steven Poppema of Holland was discovered dead.
“We extend our sincere condolences to the family of Steven Poppema,” said Park Superintendent David Horne, “and we thank our agency partners for their assistance in responding to this incident.”
Currently, the cause of Poppema’s death is unknown.
