WASHTENAW COUNTY (WWJ) - Police are turning to the public for help in locating the driver of a white Jeep Grand Cherokee that they claim fled the scene of cash that left one pedestrian dead over the weekend.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to the scene of a crash involving a pedestrian that was allegedly stuck and killed off Prospect Rd. and Park Ln. in Superior Township around 8:20 a.m. on Jan. 21.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a 53-year-old Ypsilanti woman had died.
Based off their preliminary investigation, the victim had been walking along Prospect Road sometime in the night and was struck by a vehicle. The driver did not stop at the scene and took off in the direction of Geddes Road.
Parts of the suspect vehicle were recovered at the scene, which we identified as belonging to a white 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Deputies are asking the public to keep an eye out for the SUV, which will also have damage to the front passenger side of the hood, grill and quarter panel area.
