ST JOHNS (WWJ) - Police said they are beginning their investigation into a trolley that tipped over and left multiple people injured at a holiday parade “in earnest” today.
The trolley flipped over in the 200 block of Clinton Avenue ahead of the St. Johns’ Santa Parade on Dec. 1, police said.
16 people were injured, most of them children. Authorities said that bystanders provided assistance to the injured before first responders arrived and took over.
All of the injured that needed to be taken to a hospital have been treated and released, authorities said.
An article from the Lansing State Journal reported that the trolley used to be a luggage tug for an airport and has been used by several communities in mid-Michigan.
The Lansing State Journal article also reported that the parade and tree lighting did still take place on Friday.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor but the investigation is ongoing, officials said.
