OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - As the midway point of 2022 comes to a close, officials in Oakland County have reported over double the amount of homicides from the same time last year.
As reported by The Oakland Press, 26 people have been killed so far in 2022, where as 13 people had died as a result of homicide through June 30, 2021.
If the number of slayings continues to increase, the county could set a record, or at the very least, surpass the amount of cases in recent years, as listed below via the Oakland Press:
• 2020 -- 26 homicides
• 2019 -- 21 homicides
• 2018 -- 29 homicides
• 2017 -- 17 homicides
The Oakland Press compiled an eye-opening report of all 26 slayings, with Pontiac leading the county with 10 homicides.
Three murders were reported in Groveland Township and two homicides occurred in Hazel Park, Independence Township, Oak Park and White Lake Township.
Ferndale, Oxford Township, Rochester Hills, Southfield, Troy and Wixom each reported one homicide.
Out of 26 cases, Oakland County officials reported four homicides involved children, ages 4, 6, 7 and 16.
Officials said there could be more cases, as other crimes are currently pending investigations, autopsy results or prosecutor's review.
