FRANKENMUTH, MICH. (WWJ) A horse died on Frankenmuth's Covered Bridge, police said.

Frankenmuth Police said officers arrived on Saturday, October 4, around 4:31 p.m. and found a horse lying on the bridge deck.

Their initial investigation indicates the horse had a "sudden medical issue and collapsed" while pulling a carriage, according to police.

Authorities said a vehicle traveling westbound-- the opposite direction of the horse--had some minor damage during the incident. The vehicle did not hit the carriage.

The horse falling caused the carriage "to tip slightly", police said.

The driver of the carriage was uninjured. No one was in the buggy. The horse was taken back to its farm after its death.

Frankenmuth Police continue to investigate the incident. Frankenmuth, known for its Bavarian architecture and attractions such as the Bavarian Inn and Bronner's Christmas Wonderland, is about 15 miles southeast of Saginaw.
