(WWJ) -- Are you hosting a holiday gathering but want some of your guests to test for COVID-19 beforehand? You may be wondering what's the best way to ask.
Thomas Farley, also known as Mr. Manners, said while it's an awkward question to ask about COVID testing or vaccination status, it's a vital one.
Mr. Manners said hosts are not just looking out for the enjoyment of their guests, but also for their health and safety.
"This is a standard that every host has to put down for the wellbeing of all guests, and not just simply looking out for the comfort of one guest who feels that they don't want to take a test for whatever reason," said Mr. Manners.

Mr. Manners said that hosts should be making certain decisions well in advance of their holiday parties, including rules on mask-wearing; whether the party should be outdoors; and setting the overall standards for entry -- like taking a COVID-19 test or being fully vaccinated.
"You may have some that say, 'You know what, your standards are too strict for me, and I don't feel that I will enjoy myself at the gathering,' and you may have others who say, 'You know what, your standards are simply not strict enough for me, and I don't feel comfortable.'" said Mr. Manners. "But that way it's up to each guest to make their decision."
By gathering that information ahead of time, your guests will know all the details on what's required to attend, and you can avoid the awkward questions.
