SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) — For the second time this year, cleanup efforts are underway at the Humane Society of Macomb after a car crashed into the building.

A car crashed into the building — near 22 Mile and Van Dyke in Shelby Township — around 8 a.m. Tuesday,

Mike Wilkie, the executive director of the animal shelter, told WWJ's Mike Campbell a woman was bringing her dog to the facility for a teeth cleaning and she hit the gas instead of the brakes, slamming into the Humane Society's waiting room.

Back on March 13 another driver did the exact same thing, driving over the same curb and into the building.

No people or animals were injured in either crash.

Repairs from the first crash cost an estimated $25,000 and officials believe the totals will be about the same this time around, according to a report from Fox 2.

The Humane Society of Macomb says it has decided to build a barrier in front of the facility to prevent similar crashes, according to the report.

While insurance is expected to cover the costs of repairs, donations can be made on the Humane Society of Macomb website.
