(WWJ) - The Huron County Sheriff is warning people to be careful if they venture onto the ice in Saginaw Bay.
People ice fishing need to be cautious when on the ice in Saginaw Bay, Huron County Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson said in a press release.
“Even though there have been reports of ice over 6” thick, recent aerial observations are indicating open pockets of water in Huron and Tuscola Counties,” Hanson said.
Deformities in the ice can also pose a threat. Hanson said people fishing when it’s dark should be particularly wary.
“Fishermen are advised not to take the ice for granted,” Hanson said in the press release.
The ice may be further compromised with next week’s forecast calling for rain and temperatures in the upper 30s, authorities said.
