I-94 eastbound reopened at Metro Parkway following fatal crash in Macomb County

HARRISON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A stretch of I-94 in Macomb County was closed this morning following a fatal accident.

Just before 5:30 a.m., Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to eastbound I-94 at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Road) for a single vehicle crash.

According to police, the driver, 71-year-old Allen Jasmund of Harrison Township, was entering the freeway at a high rate of speed in an orange Dodge Journey.

The Journey then hit the guard rail and crashed into the concrete traffic divider before coming to a stop. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Jasmund, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An adult woman traveling with Jasmund in the front passenger seat was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At this time, drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been involved in the crash.

Eastbound I-94 at Metro Parkway has since been reopened, and the investigation from The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing.
