DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police say a crash that led to a major freeway closure Friday morning involved a woman who fell asleep behind the wheel.
According to officials with the MSP Second District, a 26-year-old Detroit woman was driving on I-94 when a passenger in the car says she nodded off.
The car then veered off the freeway, went up the embankment and overturned, rolling back onto the freeway, MSP said.
The driver was taken to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, MSP said, and the passenger only had minor injuries.
The crash happened in the westbound lanes of I-94 near 9 Mile Rd.
While conducting the on-scene investigation, MSP shut down the westbound freeway from I-696 to 8 Mile Rd. Drivers were being forced off onto 696.
All lanes of the freeway reopened to traffic at around 9:30 a.m.
