HAZEL PARK (WWJ) -- One person has been arrested after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation and crash this week in Oakland County.

According to a spokesperson for ICE, this happened during a targeted enforcement operation in Hazel Park on Monday, Feb. 2.

When ICE officers identified a suspect and tried to pull him over, he fled — nearly colliding with multiple vehicles and "putting the entire community at risk," the ICE spokesperson said.

As the driver approached a local warehouse, he got out of the car and fled on foot into the building, leaving the vehicle in drive.

ICE officers for permission from the security staff to enter the facility and apprehend the suspect, identified as Edwin Romero Guttierez, an "illegal alien" from Venezuela, according to ICE.

Guiterrez was previously arrested by U.S. Border Patrol in 2023 after crossing the border illegally in the Rio Grande Valley without inspection or parole, according to ICE.

On Tuesday, officials said Guiterrez remained in ICE custody pending further immigration proceedings.

No injuries were reported.
