DETROIT (WWJ) - It was a double-whammy for a man accused of driving while impaired after he crashed his vehicle on I-75 in Detroit on Friday-- and then crashed, again, into an officer attempting to help him.
Michigan State Police said one of their troopers responded to the scene of a single-vehicle crash around 11:45 p.m. on northbound I-75 near the Davison Freeway in the city.
The trooper approached the driver and was attempting to him out of the roadway when the driver put his vehicle in reverse and crashed for a second time into trooper's patrol car.
The trooper was not struck, MSP said, and the crash caused minor damage to both vehicles.
"Continued investigation revealed that the driver was impaired," state police added. "The driver was arrested and lodged at the Detroit Detention Center."
The man is now facing charged pending a prosecutor review.
