Jackson driver injured after roadside gunmen open fire into moving vehicle

A woman was taken to the hospital over the weekend after she was struck twice by gunfire when two unknown suspects shot into her vehicle in Jackson.

JACKSON (WWJ) - A woman was taken to the hospital over the weekend after she was struck twice by gunfire when two unknown suspects shot into her vehicle in Jackson.

The Jackson Police Department confirmed the shooting, which occurred around 12:40 a.m. on April 23. Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of E. Addison Street after receiving the call of shots fired.

When they arrived, police said they found the victim, a 50-year-old woman, with gunshot wounds to her lower abdomen and leg.

The woman told officers that she was driving with her male passenger west on E. Addison Street when two people came out of a wooded area near the road and open fired at her vehicle.

The woman was transported to the Henry Ford Jackson Hospital for treatment and has since been released from their care.

The male passenger was unhurt in the incident.

The department said their investigation into the shooting remains ongoing. Police did not release further details and it is unknown if detectives have identified any motives or suspects.
