SCHOOLCRAFT (WWJ) -- A man from the Village of Schoolcraft in Kalamazoo County may face charges for shooting at federally protected birds after video footage corroborated witness statements.

As reported by MLive, Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Conservation Officer James Nason responded to the West Michigan residence after reports came in about someone firing shots at sandhill cranes.

Nason interviewed multiple people and collected evidence from he scene. Captured video footage of the incident in question proved particularly helpful in determining whether the suspect had violated any laws.

The video allegedly shows the suspect in a bedroom window of the house with a .22 rifle. He is supposedly seen firing numerous rounds at a flock of cranes in a field across the street from the residence.

In addition to shooting at an endangered species, Officer Nason also determine that other homes nearby could have been struck by the gunfire, endangering the lives of the occupants.

The Kalamazoo County Prosecutor's Office is expected to review the facts of the case and make a judgement regarding charges.

Until that decision is made, the suspect's identify is being withheld.
