KALAMAZOO (WWJ) – Authorities in Southwest Michigan say they’ve got “a suspect” in custody.

But it’s not your typical suspect.

Well, it’s not even a suspect at all, to tell the truth. But officers in Kalamazoo were on patrol Tuesday night when a sergeant spotted an alligator crossing the street.

“This little guy was anything but an insti-gator as PSO Anderson finds out in this bodycam footage!” officials said in a Facebook post Wednesday.

Video shows the officers surrounding the gator near a tree, and one officer finally talks the others into letting her pick it up.

“No word yet on if he wants a position in KDPS helping us solve crimes as an Investi-gator,” the Facebook post said. “However for now, we have to say see ya later alligator as we work to find him a safe place to live and a new home!”

Officials have not said where the alligator came from or whether it was somebody’s pet.
