DETROIT (WWJ) Kia is recalling about 71,000 Sportage vehicles, model years 2008 and 2009, over fire risks.

All of the vehicles affected were previously recalled in 2016.

The Korean automaker said eight vehicles that had received the repair issued after the 2016 recall have caught fire, and 15 more cars have had melting or damage.

The problem stems from a defect near the hydraulic engine control device.

Kia said owners should park their car outside, and away from buildings and other vehicles until the problem can be addressed.

No injuries or deaths have been reported due to the issue, according to the company.

The automaker said their engineers are working out a permanent fix for the problem and will roll it out to owners when it becomes available.
