MT. CLEMENS (WWJ) -- A barricaded gunman situation has ended peacefully in Mt. Clemens, without any injuries.
Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies responded at around 8 a.m. Monday to a home on Park Street, on a report of shots fired.
When they arrived, they found a 27-year old man inside the home, who refused to come out, officials said. There were children inside of the home, which led to the decision to bring in negotiators as well as a SWAT team, drone and K9 teams.
The nearby L’Anse Creuse Learning Academy was placed on a precautionary lockdown.
At around 10 a.m., while the suspect talked with negotiators, one of the children was able to escape the house, which led to the suspect eventually surrendering to officers, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies were then able to rescue the other kids from the house and they were inspect the home to see if there were any other hostages or gunmen. "Currently, the suspect is in custody and there is no danger to the community relating to this incident," the sheriff's office said, in a media release.
No injuries were reported, and the children are currently being checked out at a local hospital.
The suspect's name was not immediately released, with charges pending. The investigation is ongoing.
