Knife-wielding Gaylord man arrested after approaching stranger in grocery store parking lot, stabbing him in the buttock: police

GAYLORD (WWJ) - A Gaylord man was taken into custody last Friday after police said he randomly approached a man he didn't know and stabbed him in the backside with a folding knife.

According to the Gaylord Police Department, officers were called out to the scene of a reported stabbing in the Family Fare grocery store parking lot around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26.

When officers arrived, they found a 38-year-old man who told them he was approached by a male stranger in the parking lot before he was suddenly stabbed him in the upper buttock with an unknown object.

The suspect then took off from the area on foot.

The department said they were able to quickly track down the suspect a short distance away from the grocery store. Officers found a folding knife on his person and identified it as the object used in the assault.

The suspect -- identified as 34-year-old Joshua Worthington -- was arrested. He was arraigned on one count of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm.

His bond was set at $100,000.
