(WWJ) — A Lake Orion man will spend the next 26-50 years behind bars after being convicted of brutally beating and sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
Adam Richard Williams, 35, was convicted in May of multiple counts, including home invasion, sexual assault and domestic violence, stemming from the attacks on July 31 and Aug. 1, 2023.
Prosecutors argued that Williams broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home after she had ended the relationship. He then raped her and beat her, including with a baseball bat.
Judge Kwame Rowe exceeded the sentencing guidelines, citing the defendant's “egregious, despicable crimes,” as well as the defendant’s repeated violations of the judge’s orders, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.
“This was a horrific crime,” Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. “My top priorities are public safety and holding violent criminals accountable, and I am so proud of the work of my Special Victims Unit and Chief Sarah Greene. I also applaud Judge Rowe’s decision, which will keep our community safe from this dangerous predator and will hopefully provide the victim with some peace, knowing that this defendant will not be able to victimize her or others.”
