EATON COUNTY (WWJ) - A Lansing-area high school student was taken into custody on Thursday after they allegedly brought an airsoft gun to school and showed it to classmate.
According to the Eaton Country Sheriff's Office, Waverly High School staff were made aware of the incident after a student reported that they were shown what appeared to be a handgun by a fellow student.
The School Resource Officer, who is an Eaton County Deputy, was informed and went to speak with the student who allegedly had the gun, but the student ran from the school.
After a brief search with additional help from Eaton County deputies, the student was found and arrested a short distance from the school.
During their arrest, police discovered an airsoft gun on the student. The minor was taken and lodged at the Eaton County Youth Facility.
The student’s name will not be released because of his juvenile status, deputies said.
It is unclear what charges, if any, will be brought against the student.
