MASON (WWJ) – A Lansing man who was serving time for retail fraud has died at the Ingham County Jail.

Dudley Riley, 55, died Tuesday morning, according to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies were checking on Riley late Tuesday morning they found him in medical distress. Deputies, jail medical staff, including an on-site medical doctor, and paramedics “aggressively attempted life saving measures.”

He was taken to Sparrow Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A cause of death has not been determined.

Riley had been held in custody at the jail since Sept. 29 on charges including felony retail fraud out of the 55th District Court in Mason. Authorities did not release any further details about the charges.

The sheriff’s office says family members and next of kin have been notified.

A Michigan Sheriff’s Association investigation will now begin. Authorities say no further information will be released until the investigation is completed and forwarded to the Michigan Attorney General's Office for review.
