DETROIT (WWJ) - The celebration of the Lions' win over the Panthers won't be complete for linebacker Alex Anzalone until his parents are safely home from Israel.
Anzalone’s parents were part of a 53 person group from the First Baptist Church of Naples, which is based in Naples, Florida, to go to Jerusalem as part of a church trip. The group was in Jerusalem when the war began between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian militant group.
Authorities say there have been over 1,000 deaths since fighting broke out.
Pastor Alan Brumback provided an update in a Facebook video.
“We've talked to Congressmen, U.S. Senators, we've got people that are doing everything they can to help us get out of here if we need to,” Brumback said.
In an update posted to the First Baptist Church of Naples’ Facebook on Sunday, the group was safe in their hotel in Jerusalem.
The group is scheduled to fly out of Tel Aviv on Thursday.
