LUTZ, Fla. (WWJ) -- As authorities in Florida continue to search for Cam Sutton following allegations that he strangled a women at a home near Tampa nearly two weeks ago, the Detroit Lions have issued an update on where he stands with the team.

In a statement posted to X on Thursday afternoon, the Lions announced that they had released the 29-year-old cornerback.

Sutton is wanted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for Domestic Battery by Strangulation after he allegedly attacked a woman just before 5:00 a.m. on March 7 in Lutz, Fla., just north of Tampa.

He fled the scene before authorities arrived, and police haven't been able to contact him. As reported by Mlive, Sutton has not visited his home and has either disconnected or turned off his phone.

The sheriff's office said Sutton may be driving a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with a plate number of FL-AZ33QB.

Anyone with any information on Sutton's whereabouts has been asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office at (813) 247-8200.

Sutton started all 20 games for the Detroit Lions last season, including the playoffs, but struggled to live up to expectations as the team's No. 1 corner.

At the time of his release, the 29-year-old still had two years and $21 million in salary remaining on his contract in Detroit.
